Originally an old factory used for training soldiers now taken over by Liandri Co. for the tournament. This map is a HOLP style map with an industrial theme.

Gameplay 27 /30

ut3mini.gif

Hardcore and HOLP style. It feels more 2k4 than UT3 as it's a very traditional deathmatch layout where it's all about flow. Set out over four main floor (although its hard to define a floor in this map) the action is fast. Plenty of z-axis action with quite a few open areas. Open vertically as well as horizontally. There's a surprising amount of space in here as the layout does sprawl out. Different playing styles can be employed here so there should be something for everyone.

The player count is a suggested 6 to 14 which is spot on. The bots do venture to all parts of the map and give a good game. I didn't see any get stuck or confused and they do jump around. The pick-ups are also traditional and laid out in a no-fuss style. Most in the middle of the path and easy to get.

Performance 27/30 (Hardware)

As with any HOLP style map the frames should be high and they're fine here hovering around the forty mark.

Eye Candy 18/25

Although well put together the decoration is a little too random, all industrial but visually random. If each area had it's own sub-theme that was subtly different from the next it would have felt more cohesive. Apart from that it does look fairly convincing. The decorations are a tad sparse and even though that's the nature of HOLP style maps a few more meshes would have added to the experience.

The lighting is good if a little workman like in places with variations in light colour and levels as well as good use of shadows. Nothing distracting and garish but enough to stave off the repetition and frag by.

The Details 15/15

All here.

Final Score 87/100

A map for the hardcore lovers who like it pure with no fuss and it succeeds in doing that. Those who prefer a little more eye candy might feel a little disappointed.

Thanks very much for the review and your words echoed my intentions for the map. A map that was fun to play first and fore most.

I know the decorations are on the sparse side, but that was intentional as I wanted to keep the frame rates up and the visual clutter low. Though I would call this more of HOMP map (Hardcore Old-school Medium Poly). : P

Maybe after some time has passed and I learn better meshing techniques (something I need more practice on), I will make it more pretty to look at.
